[ it is, however, not midnight yet. she's not out to drag someone back to bed.

she's out exploring, enjoying the quiet and not enjoying the darkness. while not highest on her list of fears, and not one she tends to balk at, she still doesn't enjoy it. there's still a deep wariness in her heart at what may be lurking in the darkness.

there's still some light in the supermarket, at least, so that she may pace the aisles slowly, trailing her finger along the labels that mean almost nothing to her. even if she squints to read it, the word "killoggs cereal" makes no sense to her whatsoever.

the back of the building is darker, but she follows the line around to the end, preparing to turn around the corner and start back up the aisle. she's got a small basket in one arm, with things in it that seemed almost familiar, and she's wondering if she should just end her exploration for the day and head back when—

there's a mass at the end of the aisle. she knows this, because she's just spectacularly stumbled and tripped over it with a soft yelp. a horribly large, man(?) shaped mass. goodbye basket. goodbye edelgard. hello man legs and flooring. ]

[it's far, far too dangerous to actually sleep in the hotel where other people are. this is why the plan to sneak a tiny, tiny nap before he got dragged back to the hotel was ideal - it would get him just rested enough that he could stay up the rest of the night in hypervigilance.

the problem being, he was more tired than he expected... and sleep came heavier than usual.

his dreams, as ever, were a medley of fire, rain, and blood. he was small again, hiding and trying not to choke on all the smoke in the air as corpses hit the ground all around him. which made it all the more startling when he was jostled back into the real world bY A BODY HITTING THE GROUND--!

he practically screams as he scrambles furiously to get his feet under him, the haze of sleep still clinging to him.]

[ she is sprawled onto the floor, wincing at the sting in her knees and the profound ache in her thigh where there's a stab wound. ah, and her pride. it's bruised a bit. ]

My apologies, I did not happen to see you there.

[ she hasn't looked at him yet. ]

[his heart is still pounding, his breathing coming in fast. like a startled animal, he darts behind an aisle - to put something between himself and his enemy. he needs-- a weapon, any weapon. one of these metal cans will have to do.

even if she can't see him, the sound of his voice clearly conveys bared teeth, raised hackles.]

A likely story... So, you finally came to kill me while I slept...

she turns around, still on the ground. ]

Because I did not try! I would have succeeded if that had been my goal!

The floor? This place is practically pristine.

[the tiles are nice and cool! and he's not sleeping in mud! by all accounts he's moving up in life!]

I've always enjoyed debating you, but perhaps not on the matter of floor cleanliness.

Why would I lie? They told me that you had a sharp mind, and a strong heart. I learned the most of people when they would stand up for what they believed in.

And now here I am, arguing about our arguments.

[ she's starting to get up now, though her previously-stabbed leg wobbles as she puts her weight on it.

Even back at the academy, you thought me naive, and my strategies transparent. All that time evaluating everyone... did you not think I watched you also?
